It was with great sadness that I received the news of the passing of Earl Wheatley.

Earl was a giant in the state of Mississippi. Earl had the unique ability to provide strong leadership, but do so in a warm way that compelled those around him to follow his lead. His leadership at NorthPark Church, the state of Mississippi, and work with the Home Mission Board will be deeply missed.

I will never forget the first time I met Earl. We were in a meeting where the agenda was furthering the multiplication and church planting efforts in our movement. I remember vividly being struck by Earl’s passion, leadership gift, and unwavering resolve for significant kingdom impact. He was convinced one of the most effective ways to do that was starting new churches. I feel in love with Earl instantly.

Earl was loved by Healthy Growing Churches team. We truly enjoyed working with Earl during the past year. We are deeply committed to continuing the work in Mississippi that had Earl’s heart. We have one more reason to continue to seek to make new church and campuses happen in Mississippi. Together, let’s work to that end—to make Jesus famous, but also put a smile on Earl’s face as he walks streets of gold.

Do you have any special memories of Earl you want to share?
